Friday 16th June 2017 - A Y2 Triple!

1. Shree Hindu Temple

We were very lucky this week to be able to visit Leicester on Monday to observe the "arti" ceremony at the Leicester Shree Hindu Temple and to be shown around to widen our understanding of the Hindu religion, as part of our studies about India.  We were made to feel extremely welcome and after all the descriptive work we have done this year where we have thought about our senses, this truly was a sensory experience with the perfumed aroma from incense, the beautiful music and singing, not to mention the array of colours before us.  A very valuable learning experience.  If you'd like to read more, take a look here:

2. On Thursday afternoon, Year 2 went across to the Stamford Welland Academy to participate in a Multi-Skills Competition.

(Photos to follow.)

3. On Friday, we visited Burghley House where we were able to make our own clay sculpture and have a look at all of the others that are on display in the grounds.

And of course, we just had to sample the Garden of Surprises!

Many thanks to Stamford Young People's Charity for supporting this event.

And somewhere inbetween, we have been constructing a non-chronolgical report to document our learning about India!

Well done Year 2!  Sleep well and have a restful weekend ....  There's more excitement to follow next week!

Other Stuff

What a wonderful trip to Morrisons we had on Thursday morning!

We tried several Italian foods such as fresh Ciabatta with olive oil and fresh basil leaves, various cold pastas, Italian meats and cheeses including a blue cheese.

We tried Italian olives and Greek olives to compare them to.

The butchery department talked the children through the process of making minced beef, used for bolognaise and demonstrated making fresh burgers too.

Our children were also luckily enough to look at and touch various fresh fish including a squid!  We have since tasted some cooked octopus in school which got very mixed reviews!

In school we learnt about how olive oil is made and we visited the oils aisle to look at the various choices on offer.

Morrisons provided cookies and a drink each in the café to conclude our visit which the children (and adults) really enjoyed.
