The children were really excited to spot a nest and a bird nesting in one of the trees in the nursery garden. This has sparked lots of interest in birds and nests and we have taken our learning this week down this trail. The children looked really closely at a Robins nest and we thought about all the things a bird might need to build its nest. We then went outside to gather lots of natural materials so we could create our own nests for the nursery 'birds'. One child also went on a hunt when they got home and brought in lots of lovely natural materials to add to the ones we had already collected!
The children enjoyed watching a clip of a bird building a nest and then watching baby birds hatching from their eggs. We thought really hard about where birds build their nests and why, the children came up with some amazing ideas!
In cookery we made chocolate nests using Shredded Wheat and melted chocolate and then we added marshmallow eggs. In our creative area we painted with feathers, created feather collage and made flowers. In number the children have been counting out feathers onto numbered birds and in Music and Movement we danced the 'Duck Dance' with Boogie Beebies!
There has been lots of lovely learning in 'The Garden Centre' and garden themed play dough area.
On Wednesday the children planted cress seeds to link in with our learning around Spring, new life and growing.
