This week the Sunbeams became firefighters! They helped to make a large fire engine to go in our fire station. They enjoyed dressing up and using the props to role play. We were able to introduce new language by singing new songs , reading a variety of books and modelling the imaginative play with the children. The new firefighters practised their physical skills by climbing ladders , sliding down the pole and using the 'fire extinguishers' to put out the flames. Squeezing the bottles of water was a great way to strengthen the children's hand muscles. In cookery we made 'hoses' ( otherwise known as cheese straws!) which made a delicious snack.
The children also made fire helmets and , using a selection of collage shapes , a fire engine.
