The children were really interested in Reggae music and Jamaica as part of our theme around musical instruments. Last week we decided to focus our learning around Jamaica, we did this through music, sights, smells and sounds.
The children looked at photographs of Jamaica and thought about the Jamaican environment and climate. We have listened to and learnt Jamaican songs as well as exploring traditional Jamaican instruments.
In cookery we made Jamaican rock cakes and traditional coconut bread. We explored and tasted Jamaican fruits and then enjoyed making a caribbean fresh fruit salad. For snack we made rice and pea patties and we had lots of fun mashing peas and rice in the sensory tray.
On Friday we learnt about Bob Marley and listened to instumental versions of his music. We danced to Reggae and Ska music, comparing the tempo and sound!
This week the children are learning about airports, aeroplanes and travel. There has been lots of outward bound flights to Jamaica!!!!!
