This week in nursery we have continued our learning around construction and we have particularly focussed on building materials. To support this learning our literacy focus has been around the traditional tale of The Three Little Pigs. We have explored the 3 materials from the story and created our own houses out of straw, sticks and bricks. The brick houses were by far the easiest to build and the strongest! We have re told the story using puppets and in music and movement we explored the characters of the 3 little pigs and the wolf. We used music by Mozart and Bach to reflect each character from the story. The children's representations of the characters were amazing and they were able to accurately sequence the key events of the story.
The children have explored shape and pattern through a variety of bricks and construction materials. We have really challenged ourselves while completing repeating patterns.
We have developed our motor skills through sawing velcro bricks, hammering tees into melons and taking on the role of a decorator with the rollers outside! The children have supported their small world play by creating maps and mini cities. The diggers have explored a variety of materials such as lentils, peas and pasta in the sensory tray.
There continues to be creative imaginative play in the builders role play area and the children have discussed what resources they would like to support their play next week. Mrs Magan will be on the hunt for tubes, funnels and planks over the weekend!
We will be following the children's interests in machinery next week and the jobs that diggers, fork lift trucks, cranes and dumper trucks have on a building site.
